The capital of Paraná is one of the most pleasant cities for those looking for cultural tourism and being very close to nature. Its parks are even several of its main tourist attractions, but make no mistake! Whether you are planning a solo trip, as a couple or as a family, the city has tours for all tastes.

In addition to offering a wide variety of attractions, great restaurants, cafes and a great hotel structure, Curitiba is also very touristy. That’s because many of the main places to visit are right next to each other, clustered around the city center.

For those who want to visit places further away from the city center – but very close to other tourist cities in Brazil – it is also possible to use public transport or a car, either rented, owned or through a cell phone application.

1- Botanical Garden

The Botanical Garden is by far the most famous tourist attraction in the city. The postcard greenhouse with its gardens and walkways is far from just a tourist attraction.

Whether it’s a day or a weekend, it’s always possible to find people from Curitiba practicing jogging, yoga, or taking the opportunity to walk with their family and pets.

The highlight of any visit to the Arboretum is the conservatory, which has been recently renovated with hundreds of plant specimens and walkways that make the visit even more interesting.

It is also worth strolling through the paths and fields to document the greenhouse and the triangle that forms the garden from different angles, as its grandeur can only be admired from a distance.

2- Attractions in Curitiba – Oscar Niemeyer Museum

The Oscar Niemeyer Museum – known as MON, or simply “Museum of the Eye” by Curitiba locals – was inaugurated in 2002 and since then, not only for the unique shape of the eye, but also for the collective atmosphere created around it. .

In addition to the museum’s unmissable collections, the surroundings come to life, especially on weekends. On days off, people from Curitiba take their dogs to the fields behind the museum (which earned it the nickname “parcão”), where many dogs roam. Across the street there are also many dining options, with bars and even a food truck area with tables and restrooms.

Behind the Oscar Niemeyer Museum and the “parcão” is Bosque João Paulo II, also known as Bosque do Papa, created in his honor and home to the Polish Emigration Memorial.

Leaving the museum, there is a small opening that leads to a slippery path. Along the paths you will find typical Polish houses built in the shape of a village.

Still close to the Oscar Niemeyer Museum, you can also visit the Civic Center of Curitiba. The Iguaçu Palace, seat of the state government and one of the most beautiful buildings in the Civic Center, is just over 500 meters from the hotel. At least it’s worth watching!

Mondays are open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm. Access to the exhibition requires the purchase of tickets worth R$ 20 (half price). The museum also offers free admission every Wednesday until 8 pm on the first day of the month.

3- Attractions in Curitiba – Barigui Park

Green spaces, walks and… capybaras?

Barigui Park is even more sought after by tourists due to the frequent presence of the capybara, an animal that has become a symbol of Curitiba. If you’re lucky, in addition to walking outdoors, you’ll also get to meet these friendly animals.

The park, in addition to the track, exhibition hall and automobile museum, also has a large parking lot with capacity for around 2,000 vehicles. A great option for those who are driving around the city.

On the other side of the neighboring Rodovia do Café (exit to the northwestern part of the state) is Park Shopping Barigui, one of the best malls in the city of Curitiba, with more than 300 national and international designer stores.

Have you ever talked about the highway and worried about the distance? Don’t worry! Barigui Park is just 5 kilometers from the city center and with normal traffic the journey takes no more than 10 minutes.

4- Municipal Market of Curitiba

Curitiba Municipal Market is the perfect place to have lunch after a morning of sightseeing. Not only are there all kinds of fresh fruits and vegetables, but also restaurants, wine shops and oriental specialties.

Many aisles are full of natural products. Although it is a bit difficult to buy fruit and eat it locally or in a hotel, it is almost impossible to go out without a bag. In addition to the traditional fairs, the Municipal Market of Curitiba has an area dedicated to the sale of organic products.

Even if it’s just for the visit, we recommend having lunch at one of the many restaurants in the Mercado Municipal food court, or at least having a coffee in a hidden corner of the market. The gastronomic options are many, including kilo and à la carte – unmissable options!

5- Wire Opera

The Wire Opera House and the Botanical Garden are symbols of the city of Curitiba. Perhaps it is not as famous as it is, but for some its structure even resembles the construction of a greenhouse.

The space is part of Parque das Pedreiras, which, together with Pedreira Paulo Leminski, is the stage for major national and international shows. At Ópera de Arame there is also a show, but on a smaller scale, as it holds just over 1,500 people.

In addition to the beautiful structure with its transparent roof, the walkway that leads to it and overlooks the artificial lake is an ideal location for photographic documentation.

Below it, in the “underground” of Ópera de Arame, there is a restaurant, from Tuesday to Sunday, and Vale da Música – musical performances on a floating stage in the lake.

6- Panoramic Tower

The Panorama Tower of Curitiba is a tower used for telephones and offers incredible views of the city from its more than 100 meters high. As there are no tall buildings around, just houses, the city can be admired from all angles.

The circular top of the tower, in addition to the 360 degree view of the city and the mountains to the sea, has panels by Poty Lazzarotto, one of the greatest carvers and muralists in Brazil. Born in Curitiba, his murals can also be seen in other parts of the city and even at the airport.

Tickets cost 6 reais (half-price for children, elderly, disabled, students, teachers and blood donors in the state of Paraná), paid in cash or by card directly on site. Visiting hours are from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10 am to 7 pm.
